Drowning in Hate

Drowning in Hate

We absorb a lot from our environment, from the Vitamin D we absorb through our skin from the sun to pollutants in the water we drink and air we breathe. This is also true for the people we surround ourselves with.

People can pour knowledge and positivity into each other just as much as they pour ignorance and hatred. Who we surround ourselves with impacts what we're absorbing into our hearts and minds. We can't control what comes from the minds and mouths of other people, but we can (for the most part) control who we spend our time around and who we listen to.

Oftentimes, people will share every thought in their mind not to benefit the person they're speaking to, but to benefit themselves by projecting their own feelings and ideas onto someone else (like a therapist), making that person a vessel. Like any vessel or container (a cup, bucket, bottle, etc.), people also have a limited capacity for how much they can contain before things start to leak out. So to the point, if you're around a person who swears often, you will swear; if you surround yourself with people who talk about faith, you will speak about faith; and if you interact with people who talk about personal growth, you will focus on personal growth.

What we surround ourselves with and allow inside of us influences what we bring with us into other spaces and put out. So the question is, what are you allowing into your environment and what's gotten into you?
