Spirits of Injustice

Spirits of Injustice

Earlier this week in U.S., we recognized the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In one speech from Dr. King, he states that certain segments of American society are "more concerned about tranquility and the status quo than about justice and humanity." In another writing, Dr. King also stated, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

In Dr. King's words, he often called out injustice while promoting his messages of peace and humanity. The spirit of peace and spirit of injustice are constantly in conflict, because there can be no peace in an unjust environment or an unjust heart.

In the biblical text, Ephesians 6:12 tells us the fight for justice isn't physical, but spiritual. In order to find harmony, we have to recognize that the person who violates our rights or treats us unfairly, has a spirit that needs to be battled within them. Maybe there is room to unite together against that unjust spirit.
